#LeftBackHIGH5: 5 Sporting Events in December

I don’t know about you – but I feel like I am in the midst of a sporting drought. SA Rugby will only be back in July and the Proteas are about to embark on a bit of a break. This of course begs the question of what to adorn your TV with at your next braai. Worry not sport loving fans – after doing a bit of digging – we can assure you that all is not lost.

This time of the year is notoriously barren as far as sport is concerned. It’s probably why we start taking up other holiday activities or even backyard cricket right about now.

But the good news is that there are options out there guys – and in this week’s #LeftBackHIGH5 we’re going to take a look at 5 great sporting match ups you can look forward to between now and early January.

So get those PVRs ready.

5. Australia vs West Indies
Date: 10 December
Time: 1:30am

This is probably not going to be most exciting of clashes – we all know that the Windies’ strength does not lie in the longest format of the game but it should provide at least 3 days of entertainment.

4. British Premier League
Date: Ongoing
Time: Around 17:00 usually

I feel like we often forget about the BPL here in SA when it comes to braai time entertainment but the good news is that it’s still going on and will be for the next couple of months too. What’s more, it’s shaping up to be an interesting season thanks largely to Leicester City.

3. NFL
Date: Now through to February
Time: Around 20:00 usually

The one unfortunate thing about about NFL – besides the fact that SuperSport only show the odd game – is that they don’t usually play on Saturdays. In America, football is played on Fridays, Sundays and Mondays. That said, it’s hands down one of my favourite sporting leagues in the world and is well worth the time it takes to get to grips with the code. Pop it on at your next braai – it will add a whole different flavour to it!

2. RAMSlam T20 Final
Date: 12 December
Time: 18:00

Ah yes, Saturday sport – there is nothing like it. You won’t even have to record this one as it’ll be coming to you live from Centurion. Can KP and the Dolphins topple the Titans? Are the Cobras going to emerge victorious again? Tune in on the 12th of December and catch things as they unfold.

1. Cape Town Sevens
Date: 12/13 December
Time: Usually around 9/10

Sevens is making it’s debut in the Mother City after many years in P.E and it’s shaping up to be a cracking event with all 55000 tickets sold out for both days. Cape Town loves a good party so if you haven’t managed to get your hands on a couple of tickets to catch it live – be sure to tune in on Saturday and Sunday to catch it on SuperSport.

There you go sports fans – proof that even though it might not feel that way – there is actually still plenty of sport out there to watch.

Anything we’ve left off the list? Hate NFL and want to have it removed from the list? Good. Hit us with a comment below or with a tweet @leftbacks on Twitter and let the banter begin!
