It’s Christmas in a few days so if you’re still unsure what to get your sport mad significant other – you’re just about out of time. That’s the bad news. The good news is that Bruce and Juan have created a list of 10 perfect gifts for the avid sports fan.
You’re welcome.
Let’s start with Juan’s 5 in no particular order.
5. Wilson “The Duke” Official NFL Game Ball
Where to get it: http://www.amazon.com/Wilson-Duke-Official-Game-Football/dp/B000RHV172
Cost: $89 (R1300)
Every sports fan has a spot reserved on their mantlepiece, bar, book shelf for their most prized item of sporting paraphernalia – and for me – that would be an official NFL game. Unfortunately here at the tip of Africa – NFL merchandise is hard to come by so this would either have to be ordered online or a kind soul would have to collect on a trip to the States. Also, if any of our readers are planning on buying me one of these – I am a Seahawks fan. #justsaying
4. Apple iWatch
Where to get it: http://www.myistore.co.za/38mm-silver-aluminium-case-with-white-sport-band
Cost: R5899
Apple create such awesome products that I just can’t help but want one. I remember desperately wanting an iPod Nano when I was about 21 years old – even though I had zero use for it. I never ended up buying one but I don’t want to make the same mistake with the iWatch. Not only does it look great but with Discovery Healthy rewards – having one of these would enable me to achieve diamond status quickly and easily.
3. 2016 Stormers Jersey
Where to get it: https://www.stormersshop.co.za/index.php?showproductitems&productcategoryid=108&parentid=107
Cost: R749
The Stormers, much like the Springboks, seem to have gotten into the habit of changing their jersey every season and for the avid sports fan – not having the right attire – is a disaster akin to a celebrity wardrobe malfunction. We need the new jersey every year. The problem this year is that I want both – the home and away jerseys so hopefully I’ll get one for my Christmas and one for my birthday. I’d probably start with he away strip though. I like it.
2. ADIDAS Libro Club Cricket Bat
Where to get it: http://www.prodirectcricket.com/products/adidas-Libro-Club-Bat-English-Willow-Cricket-Bats-Blue-Orange-Grey-122719.aspx?
Cost: R4 275
Ok I will admit it. I have no idea what the difference between a good bat and a bad bat is but am obsessed with ADIDAS so if they make cricket bats – I want one. Plus I play action cricket every week so I feel I should get myself my own bat and increase my tally of 7s in the process.
1. Seattle Seahawks 12s Official Game Jersey
Where to get it: http://proshop.seahawks.com/12th_Fan_Jersey/Mens_Seattle_Seahawks_Fan_12_Nike_College_Navy_Alternate_Game_Jersey
Cost: $99 (R1300)
As I mentioned earlier – NFL gear is notoriously difficult to acquire from SA but I have to try. The Seahawks are having a good season (9 -5) – qualifying for the playoffs last night – and looking good to progress further in the league due to some unreal accuracy from their QB Russel Wilson. I would love to be able to be wearing my very own Seahawks jersey come SuperBowl 50 on 7 Feb next year.
Next up, let’s take a look at Bruce’s top 5 gift ideas.
5. Puma Golf Shoes
Where to get it: http://us.puma.com/en_US/pd/titantour-mens-golf-shoes/pna188056.html?dwvar_pna188056_color=02#start=7
Cost: $190 – this is now the equivalent to about a million Rand. So if they’re in SA, please help me find them.
While Juan will try make everyone believe Adidas is the best brand around, he is obviously wrong! Puma is THE brand. All golfers know you need a great pair of shoes. You’re walking about 6-7km’s during a round of golf, so why not have great shoes. They’re also ridiculously good looking.
4. Ajax Cape Town Jersey
Where to get it: http://www.ajaxct.co.za/shop/adidas/ajax-ct-bench-jacket-season-20152016/
Cost: R599
I always find people’s reactions fascinating when the ask me “what football side do you support” and my reply is “I live in Cape Town, so obviously Ajax”. Everyone always expects “Man Utd” or “Chelsea” as a reply. Come on guys, local is lekka.
3. ODI or T20 ticket to watch the Proteas v England
Where to get it: http://www.ticketpros.co.za/portal/web/index.php/parent_event/cf22267c-ceaa-8442-49c1-55261f779eb3
Cost: R150 – R250
It goes without saying that I have tickets for the New Years Test at Newlands. Test cricket, to me, is the best format. But a ticket to the shorter format of the game would look amazing inside my Christmas stocking.
2. Football Manager 2016
Where to get it: http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/209325128/Football_Manager_2016_Steam.html
Cost: R628
For a guy who thinks games are quite lame, for some reason, Football Manager (previously Championship Manager) is just something that has me hooked. I’ve been obsessed since Supat Rungratsamee was the big signing. Fellow FM and CM fans will recognise that name!
1. Head Squash Racquet
Where to get it: http://www.sportsmanswarehouse.co.za/product/head-spark-pro-squash-racquet/4486
Cost: R850
My latest habit. Squash. I’ve been playing for about 5 or 6 months now and loving it. This is my exact racquet, but while learning and the ball is a bit close to the wall, I sometimes take some wall with the ball, resulting in a bent racquet. I promise it was not hit against the wall in anger. Another one of these would be incredible.
